- Laymen's Guide to Classification in Summer Sports
Each Paralympic Sport has a different classification system, because each sport requires different abilities. Impairments therefore do not affect activity in different sports to the same extent.
Sport Classes are defined by each sport and are reflected in the sport’s Classification Rules together with processes and procedures on how athlete assessment is conducted. These Classification Rules are sport rules, which are governed by the respective International Federation and are subject to change.
Information about Classification in the different Paralympic sports can be found on the website of each International Federation. Please click on the links below to find out more information about the Classification Rules for each sport.
