Paralympian Woolstencroft Confirms Retirement

The multiple medal-winning Paralympian Lauren Woolstencroft (CAN) has officially announced her retirement from the Paralympic Winter Sport of Alpine Skiing.

In an official letter sent to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Athletic Director of the Canadian Paralympic Alpine Skiing Team Brianne Law declared that "Woolstencroft has retired from competition." The letter, dated 1 September 2010, confirms to the organization what was reported early this summer in other media.

Though retiring, Woolstencroft said that she hopes to continue to be part of Paralympic Sport in some capacity.

Woolstencroft made her home country proud after winning a total of five gold medals at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games (Women’s Downhill Standing, Giant Slalom, Slalom, Super Combined and Super-G). The talented athlete also took home one gold and one silver medal at the Torino 2006 Paralympic Winter Games, and two gold and one bronze at the Salt Lake City 2002 Paralympic Winter Games.
