The sport of Swimming for athletes with an impairment is governed by the IPC, and co-ordinated by the IPC Swimming Technical Committee, using the International Swimming Federation’s (FINA) modified rules.

The 2011-2014 IPC Swimming Rules and Regulations can be found in the pdf link to the left hand side. The rules include many agreed recommendations from the 2010 Eindhoven Sport Forum and the Sport Technical Committee is grateful to the groups and individuals who contributed to this process.

The major changes to the 2010 IPC Swimming Rules and Regulations are as follows:

1. The Classification Protest procedure is located in the Classification Rules and Regulations (to be published soon). Until the Classification Rules and Regulations can be found on-line, this section from the 2010 rulebook will still apply.

2. Advertising regulations updated to align with FINA

3. Support Staff are no longer required to submit deck access forms

4. A Breaststroke kicking movement is no longer permitted in Butterfly

5. Strapping of any kind to limit unwanted movement is not permitted

6. Open Water section revised and aligned with FINA

Please note that if there are any changes (e.g. changes in FINA rules, or classification related matters), the 2011-2014 IPC Swimming Rules and Regulations can be amended before 2014. Proper notice of any changes will be given.
