- ‘Just another round’ for Dartanyon Crockett
Aged 22, wrestler turned judoka Dartanyon Crockett has already captured the world’s attention.
Born with Leber’s disease, an acute visual loss, Crockett is severely near-sighted and competes in the B3 classification.
Wrestling with best friend Leroy Sutton, Crockett was featured on ESPN’s Outside the Lines programme.
During this time Crockett built his strength and became known as the powerhouse he is today.
Outside the Lines opened Crockett’s journey to the US Olympic Committee, where he was able to try different Paralympic sports.
After turning heads at USA Judo, Crockett began training and competing, and already has an impressive resume just four years into his career.
A newfound rivalry with Cuba’s Jorge Hierrezuelo Marcillis has Crockett aiming to win his first gold medal.
Now a student athlete studying a social work degree at Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Crockett spends his time training, studying and volunteering at the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind.
Crockett hopes to compete in both Paralympic and Olympic judo in the near future.
