Jakub Krako celebrating

After not winning a medal at his first Paralympic Winter Games in Torino in 2006, when aged just 16, Krako announced his arrival on the world scene at the 2009 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in Korea winning three medals, including a gold in Slalom.

In Vancouver at his second Paralympic Games he was the dominant athlete in visually impaired skiing claiming three golds and a silver medal, outclassing his Spanish rival Jon Santacana.

A year later and Santacana enjoyed the better of their rivalry at the 2011 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in Sestriere, Itlay. The Spaniard picked-up three gold medals whereas Krako could only manage one gold, retaining his world title in Slalom from 2009.

The intense rivalry between the two skiers shows no sign of abating and expect the two to be neck and neck fighting for gold at both the 2013 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in La Molina, Spain and the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games.
