Matt Skelhon is arguably Great Britain’s most renowned Paralympic shooter.
At the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, donning a distinctive red mohican, Skelhon hit a perfect score in the R3 air rifle prone SH1 category to win gold, a remarkable feat considering he had only taken up the sport two years prior.
The 29-year-old conceded his Beijing title to Cedric Fevre of France by just three-tenths of a mark, coming away with silver at London 2012.
However in his second event, the 50m air rifle Prone mixed SH1, Skelhon pushed the defending Paralympic champion out of the medals and took an unexpected bronze.
Known as Buzal in his native Peterborough, Skelhon was involved in a car accident that left him with a broken back and complete paraplegia.
After playing wheelchair basketball with Peterborough Phoenix, he discovered he had a natural talent for shooting, when he tried the sport at the 2006 Spinal Games in Stoke Mandeville, Great Britain.
Skelhon believes his hobby of building radio-controlled cars and helicopters has helped his hand-eye co-ordination.
A member of Whittlesey Rifle Club Skelhon describes himself as a perfectionist.
He is now gearing up to compete at the 2013 IPC Shooting World Cup.
