Lysova at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games

Having played second fiddle to Vernea Bentele at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games, Lysova has come into her own since the German's retirement dominating the sport.

The visually impaired athlete started out in 2002 following encouragement from her sister and made her international debut at a World Cup event in 2007.

At the Vancouver Winter Games she won a team relay gold and two silvers and two bronze medals in individual events which were all won by Bentele.

In 2011 the Russian showed she is now athlete to beat dominating the 2011 IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships which were held in Khanty Mansiysk.

She took gold in two Biathlon events - the 3.6km Pursit and 12.5km as well as the 1km Cross Country Sprint and 3x2.5km Team Relay.

Silver medal finishes were secured in the 7.5km Biathlon and the 5km and 15km Cross Country races.

Her ambition now is to win as many medals as possible at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in her home country. Her battles in Biathlon with compatriot Elena Remizova could be a highlight.
