Pattaya Tadtong, 31, has been instrumental in Thailand’s quick rise to supremacy in the BC1 class. In his Paralympic debut at Athens 2004, Tadtong picked up his country’s only boccia medal in the form of bronze, in the individual BC1 event.
Although Tadtong and Thailand failed to medal at Beijing 2008, they both made their mark at 2010 Boccia World Championships in Lisbon, Portugal, as Tadtong defeated his fellow countryman Thinnakorn Thepdaeng for the bronze medal, and helped Thailand pick a silver medal in the team BC1-2 competition.
At London 2012, Tadtong dominated the individual BC1 class, defeating home favourite David Smith of Great Britain in the final, to win his first Paralympic gold medal.
His impressive performance carried on in the team BC1-2 event, as he played a big part in securing the win for his team and his second gold of the Games, as Thailand overcame China in the final.
The Paralympic champion will be looking to keep up his winning ways, and arrive at Rio 2016 with even more major tournament wins under his belt.
