I am looking forward to the next few months of training. Canada will do its best to be ready to compete in front of our friends and family in August, and challenge the podium.

Hi everyone, Benoit Huot here!

I am very happy to join the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Canadian Paralympic Committee in promoting the Paralympic Movement as a new blogger for both Paralympic.org and Paralympic.ca.

My career spans four Paralympic Games, winning 19 medals at the Games and 22 at World Championships, and setting multiple world marks.

Through this blog, I hope to inspire and offer insights to others on different aspects of sport.

Over the next few months, I’ll be getting ready for the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships in Montreal.

I am thrilled that the best swimmers in the world will be coming to my hometown to race at their best. I am positive that the athletes will enjoy the city of Montreal and hopefully have the opportunity to witness what the rest of Canada has to offer.

I’ve recently returned from Minneapolis where I was competing at the 2013 Spring CanAms.

The competition served as Canada’s trials for the World Championships. Canada and USA produced some solid performances and will be sending strong teams to Montreal this summer.

It's the first time that we have a long course world championship the year after the Paralympic Games, and the level of performances were amazing for a trials meet.

It looks promising for the Championships coming up.

Canada will be sending a team of 32 swimmers. The team will be officially announced in May, but it is shaping up to be a good mix of veterans, as well as some upcoming athletes that will experience their first major competition.

Personally, the CanAms were my first test since London and gave me an idea of what I needed to work on for this summer.

I am happy to return to competition and will enjoy racing again. I am looking forward to the next few months of training.

Canada will do its best to be ready to compete in front of our friends and family in August, and challenge the podium.

I will be back in a few weeks with more details on our preparations, as we get ready for the summer. Now, let's cheer on our friends around the world where they compete at their swim trials to make this summer’s teams to come and race in beautiful Montreal.
