Championship Venue

All competitive and training activity will be hosted at one location: the Swansea University International Sports Village. The Village is a standalone permanent facility set just 200m from the beach. The facilities are modern, of international standard, with appropriate access for people with an impairment.

All sports facilities are located within 800m of the main team accommodation and can be easily accessed without vehicle transport.

Permanent facilities at the eight hectare (20 acre) Sports Village include:

• international standard eight-lane 400m floodlit track

• 500 seat undercover spectator stadium (increased to 1,100 for Championships)

• indoor training centre

• Wales national swimming pool

The Indoor Training Centre will be available for use by all athletes and is comprised of a 60m six-lane track, long jump pit, high jump, shot put, discus, pole vault, changing village, therapy suite, strength and conditioning suite.

Swansea 2014 will also provide an additional hard standing areas for the use of warm-ups and outdoor practice throws areas.

The athletics facilities are the base for Swansea Harriers, the UK Athletics Club of the Year in 2009. The club includes the team captain for Great Britain in 2012, Dai Greene and is one of the top 10 clubs in the Great Britain for women’s and junior track and field.

In both 2009 and 2012, the Village won a prestigious IOG (Institute of Groundsmanship) award for best maintained facilities.

In 2012 the facilities hosted the New Zealand and Mexican Paralympics teams for their pre-games training camps.

Accommodation

Athlete and NPC team official accommodation at the 2014 IPC Athletics European Championships will be based at Swansea University – Singleton Park campus – providing a Championship village style solution.

Swansea University boasts a range of on-site accommodation, comprising of 1,100 bedrooms across eight residential buildings. This accommodation is situated within close proximity to all Championship facilities, less than 800m from the Championship venue and adjacent to catering and social facilities.

The residences are at the heart of the campus, set in 100 acres of beautiful parkland and only 100m from the beach front. The campus has excellent access to all parts of the city via public and private transport.

This accommodation was utilised by the Mexico Paralympic team in the run up-to London 2012 and currently contains both fully adapted and wheelchair accessible rooms and will undergo further adaptations in the run up to the Championships.

All rooms have free wifi access, tea and coffee facilities, towels and linens, a shared kitchen facility and 24-hour security and assistance.

Rates for the Championships accommodation have yet to be finalised by Swansea 2014 but are likely to range between 65-85 pounds (plus VAT) per person per night. The rate is inclusive of all services plus breakfast. Lunch and evening meals will be covered by the competition fee.

Cardiff Wales International Airport (CWL)

Cardiff Wales Airport is situated 64km from Swansea University International Sports Village which is a one hour coach journey.

Swansea 2014 will provide a full meet and greet service at the airport and free accessible transport to and from the Championship accommodation will be provided for all athletes, NPC team officials, luggage and equipment.

Swansea High Street Train Station

Swansea Train Station is a busy mainline station connecting the city with Cardiff (60 minutes), Bristol (90 minutes) and London (180 minutes).

The station is situated 4.7km from the Championship accommodation which is a 10-minute coach journey.

Swansea 2014 will provide a full meet and greet service at the airport and free accessible transport to and from the Championship accommodation will be provided for all athletes, NPC team officials, luggage and equipment.

Additional ports

To ensure that all participating nations are provided with a variety of travel planning options, Swansea 2014 will also provide a transport service to and from the following transport hub.

Transportation to and from this destination will incur an additional supplementary charge TBA.

Bristol International Airport (BRS)

Bristol International Airport is located just over the Welsh border in South West England. The airport is located 136km (85 miles) from the host city which is a 105 minute journey by road.

In addition to the above, Swansea 2014 will also make available to teams a list of approved transport providers which operate to and from additional airports including Birmingham and London Heathrow.

Ground transportation

Due to the close proximity of the team accommodation to the Championship venue (800m), it is likely that non-vehicular travel may be the preferred transport option to and from the venue.

However, Swansea 2014 will provide a shuttle system and an equipment transport service between the university campus and the venue.
