Beijing Gets More Accessible

Renovations are nearly complete in more than 120 member hotels for the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The renovations have a special emphasis on improvements to accommodate people with a disability. With more accessible facilities at tourist attractions and major transportation hubs, Beijing is on its way to forging accessible Games for everyone.

According to the Beijing Tourism Bureau, member hotels in Beijing can now offer around 170 accessible or wheelchair friendly rooms for people with a disability. Several three-star hotels have undergone barrier-free renovation.

It is estimated that Beijing will see 450,000 to 500,000 overseas tourists during the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The city invested around Euro 6,5 million (= Yuan 70 million) on renovations in regards to accessibility at over sixty popular tourist attractions last year.
