The Fédération Francaise Handisport will partner with Électricité de France (EDF) to honour 100 days to go until the London 2012 Paralympics with a celebration outside Paris’ City Hall in May.
“Everyone is focused on the Paralympic Games and, 100 days before the Opening Ceremony, we want to transform the city hall’s square into a big festive place.”
The Fédération Francaise Handisport (FFH) and its historical partner Électricité de France (EDF) will celebrate 100 days until the Paralympics together outside Paris’ City Hall from 25-26 May in conjunction with the sixth edition of EDF’s meeting for sport for people with a disability.
The event will also mark 20 years of partnership between FFH and EDF.
“After 20 years of a very successful collaboration, EDF and the federation have organized this indispensable event hand in hand yet again,” said FFH president Gérard Masson. “Everyone is focused on the Paralympic Games and, 100 days before the Opening Ceremony, we want to transform the city hall’s square into a big festive place.”
Plenty of French champions will be in attendance to share their Paralympic memories, challenges and stories with the public. Among them will be Athletics stars Arnaud Assoumani and Marie-Amélie Le Fur, as well as Swimming sensations Elodie Lorandi and Charles Rozoy.
At the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, the French delegation finished with 86 medals in total, including 30 gold, 28 silver and 28 bronze.
France is hoping to send more than 200 athletes to London for this summer’s Paralympic Games, and they will be able to tell their stories to fans in Paris with just 100 days to go.
“It is an incredible chance to share my passion with the Parisian public 100 days before one of the most important meetings of my career – the Paralympic Games,” said Marie-Amelie Le Fur.
Nearly 20 Paralympic sports will be introduced to children and adults in Paris through information and demonstration sessions.
The Adapted Sports French Federation (FFSA) will also be present and will introduce its various activities for people with both physical and intellectual disabilities.
In 20 years, EDF and the FFH have educated more than 500,000 young people with a disability through different projects, and more than 8 million French people have assisted in or have been made aware of these activities.
The event is free and open to the public.
