China Shines as Hosts of Table Tennis Open

The Chinese delegation starred as hosts of the 2011 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) China Para Table Tennis Open in Beijing, taking home a grand total of 27 of the possible 43 medals.

China won all of the team events in both the T9 and T10 classifications, and had stellar performances from almost every member of its delegation.

The Netherlands’ Kelly van Zon, meanwhile, defeated her Russian rival, Julia Oysjannikova, 3-0, on Tuesday in the gold-medal match in the T7 classification.

After taking a comfortable 7-3 lead in the final set, van Zon used her forehand attack to sweep the match in three sets (11-9, 11-8, 11-7).

Van Zon recently won the 2011 World Table Tennis Championships in her home nation in Rotterdam earlier this year after defeating Turkey’s Kubra Ocsoy in four sets in the gold-medal match.
