"Our tournament was disappointing before this game, but now we've made a big step to making our game better. We were very big favourites in this tournament, but we have played very poorly until today.”
Finland beat Sweden, 4-1, in their decisive winner-take-all match to progress to the last eight of the men’s goalball competition.
Jarno Mattila scored all four goals for the Finns - who had to win to finish above Sweden in group A and take the fourth qualification spot.
After the win Erkki Miinala said: “It is a great feeling. Our tournament was disappointing before this game, but now we've made a big step to making our game better. We were very big favourites in this tournament, but we have played very poorly until today.”
Brazil won their final match against Great Brtiain in the Copperbox, 7-1.
The result means the host nation failed to win a match in London.
After the match Adam Knott said: “We are all disappointed that it's the end and disappointed about the result. We have had some fantastic performances and I think we deserved to win a game.
“We'll now come and support the women's team.”
Turkey scored a last minute equaliser to deny Lithuania victory in a tense 2-2 draw. The result preserves Turkey’s unbeaten run in the tournament and means Lithuania will face China in the last eight in what is a repeat of the Beijing 2008 final.
Great Britain’s women stormed to a 5-0 win over Denmark on day 6 of the goalball action.
The Copperbox was rocking on Tuesday morning as Anna Sharkey scored a hat-trick to help Team GB on their way to victory - which sees them qualify from group C in second place.
After the performance GB’s Jessica Luke said: “We're really gelling as a group. We look more and more like a team.
She added: “We played to our strengths. We kept a clean sheet. If they can't score, they can't win.”
Meanwhile, Denmark, who picked up bronze in Beijing, exited without scoring a point.
World champions China beat Finland, 5-2, to finish top of group C in the women’s competition without dropping a single point.
Despite the defeat Finland still qualified for the knockout rounds, finishing in the fourth qualifying spot on four points.
Australia leave the London 2012 Games with no points after they lost 8-5 to Sweden in their final group game.
After the defeat Nicole Esdaile said: “London 2012 has been the greatest, steepest, most difficult challenging learning curve we could ever have experienced. We have soaked everything up and we will come back better and stronger as a result.”
Canada scored a dramatic last-second winner against the USA to take top spot in group D of the women’s competition.
It looked as though the game was going to end in a stalemate, but Nancy Morin snatched victory for the Canadians at the last possible moment.
