First HandiTel International Conference in Monaco

As part of SPORTEL Monaco 2008, the first HandiTel International Conference will take place on 22 October at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. The addition to the programme this year officially opens up the highly-influencial audience and participants to the Paralympic world and its broadcasting possibilities.

By IPC

Being the biggest International Sports Television Convention, SPORTEL Monaco is universally recognized as the one all-important, must-attend international market for companies involved with any aspect of sports programming and sports content across all distribution platforms.

And, as stated, for the first time this year, the broadcasting of sports for persons with a disability will be on the agenda of the participants. After record media coverage of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games and a clear demand for more access to Paralympic Sport and therefore the Paralympic Movement, SPORTEL Monaco 2008 is another opportunity for expanding the Paralympic audience and at the same time creating new outlets for education.

Topics to be discussed at the upcoming conference include the stakes of digital accessibility and sport for persons with a disability on TV. Experts from the area of broadcast and production will speak about these issues and field any questions that might be asked from participants.

The session, “Handisport – The audience of international competitions”, will concentrate on evaluating the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games broadcasting. Speakers invited include Paralympians Oscar Pistorius (RSA) and Xavier Le Draoullec (FRA) as well as Gérard Masson, President of the French National Paralympic Committee and representative from the International Paralympic Committee, France Televisions and the European Broadcasting Union.
