Fourth Co-ordination Commission Visit to London

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Co-ordination Commission for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games today finished its fourth visit to the British capital.

Said Mr. Jarvis: “We are very pleased with the progress made on the planning for the Paralympic Games. Following fantastic and colourful Games in Beijing, the distinct potential of the Paralympic Games has been fully embraced by LOCOG through an integrated working approach.”

Following three days of positive meetings, the Commission, including IPC representative Patrick Jarvis, received updates from the London 2012 Organizing Committee (LOCOG), the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and the other organizations involved in preparing for the Games. Furthermore, the Commission had the opportunity to tour the site of the Olympic Green in the north east of London which will also host the majority of the Paralympic sports in 2012 as well as Eton Dorney and Royal Holloway.

The Commission was presented with an overview of important areas of Games preparations including transport, accommodation, field of play, sustainability, legacy planning, technology, ticketing, medical services and press operations.

Mr. Jarvis was joined by IPC CEO Xavier Gonzalez, IPC Executive Director of Sport and IF Relations David Grevemberg and Thanos Kostopoulos, IPC Paralympic Games Senior Manager.

During the Paralympic working group, LOCOG and the IPC discussed the general progress on the Paralympics. Special focus was also put on the topics of accomodation, transport, venue locations as well plans for selling the broadcast rights for the Paralympics.

The IOC Co-ordination Commission reviews the progress of the Organizing Committees on a regular basis and includes also a Paralympic working group and Paralympic topics.

Around 4,200 athletes from 150 countries are expected to participate in the London 2012 Paralympic Games from 29 August to 9 September 2012.
