Fourth National Paralympic Day in Iran

For the fourth time, a National Paralympic Day was held on 25 October in Tehran and 29 provinces of Iran with around 17,000 persons with a disability attending. Sport complexes throughout Iran opened their doors to mostly children with a disability, accompanied by their parents, coaches, volunteers and organizing staff.

In Iran’s capital, a total of 1,700 people with a disability gathered at Shiroudi Stadium to participate in various sports, including Football 7-a-side and Wheelchair Basketball. The main objective of the day was to encourage and promote Paralympic Sport for young athletes with a disability.

Sir Philip Craven, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) sent a welcome message to all participants, which was read in all venues all over the country. “You are in for a day of fun and discovery! Indeed, you are about to join the ranks of insatiable Paralympic fans around the globe because in National Paralympic Day lies a share of the Paralympic Experience. Iran is clearly demonstrating its profound commitment to the values of the Paralympic Movement by holding the largest National Paralympic Day ever”, said Sir Philip.

The next National Paralympic Day in Iran is planned for 2009.
