Germany and Japan remain undefeated

In the day’s later game, Japan kept their winning ways alive with a 3-1 defeat of Great Britain to win Group A.

Germany wasted no time on the second day of the 2013 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships B-Pool on Tuesday (12 March), scoring just 11 seconds into their game against Slovakia to jump-start a 7-0 victory that would keep them undefeated thus far in Nagano, Japan.

Bernhard Hering notched the first goal for the Germans, while Bas Disveld notched two scores in the game and Lahrs Uhlemann saved all five shots on goal.

Slovakia’s Miroslav Pastucha saved 21 of the 28 shots that came his way.

Four other players scored for Germany in their win: Torsten Ellmer, Udo Segreff, Felix Schrader and Frank Rennhack. The team have now won both their games and have won Group B, which also consists of Estonia and Slovakia.

In the day’s later game, Japan kept their winning ways alive with a 3-1 defeat of Great Britain to win Group A.

After a scoreless opening period, Satoru Sudo found the net for the Japanese, unassisted on a power play, and then Eiji Misawa put the puck in off an assist from Sudo to put the home squad up 2-0 heading into the final frame.

Steve Thomas scored for Great Britain in the third period, but Tomohiko Maruo sealed Japan’s second win in as many days with another goal.

Japan outshot Great Britain in the contest 12-11, with the winning goalie Mitsuru Nagase saving 10 of those shots. Robin Gaze recorded nine saves in goal for Great Britain.

Next up, Estonia will challenge Slovakia on Wednesday (13 March) at 14:00 local time, followed by a matchup between Great Britain and Poland at 17:30.

Germany and Japan have both advanced to Friday’s (15 March) semi-finals.
