“We are delighted to have won the bid to host the European Championships.”

Great Britain won the bid to host the 2015 European Wheelchair Basketball Championships, which are expected to draw more than 400 players across the continent to the recently opened University of Worcester Arena two years from now.

The same arena has been selected as the British wheelchair basketball programme’s training venue in the lead-up to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

“We are delighted to have won the bid to host the European Championships,” said British Wheelchair Basketball Chairman Malcolm Tarkenter.

“It reaffirms the UK as a leading nation of the sport in Europe. Our partnership with the University is going from strength to strength and we are looking forward to delivering a world class event with them, UK Sport and other partners we hope to attract from the local area.”

Coming up at the end of this month, the 2013 edition of the European Championships will take place in Frankfurt, Germany from 28 June-7 July. It will be the 20th edition of the men’s tournament and the 14th edition of the women’s tournament.
