Great Britain’s Alfie Hewett and the Netherlands’ Diede de Groot swept to straight set wins on Saturday (18 November) to claim the men’s and women’s singles titles at the Bath Indoor tournament in Great Britain, the last ITF 1 Series event on the 2017 UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour.

It is a great confidence-boost for world No. 3 Hewett and world No. 2 de Groot ahead of the NEC Singles Wheelchair Masters from 29 November-3 December.

In the men’s final, Hewett beat 2017 Wimbledon champion Stefan Olsson 6-0, 6-4.

Sweden’s Olsson then paired with Belgium’s Joachim Gerard to win their second successive men’s doubles Bath Indoor title and will go into this week’s UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters full of confidence.

Gerard and Olsson faced a strong challenge from South Africa’s Evans Maripa and Japan’s Takashi Sanada in the men’s doubles final, but the Belgian-Swedish partnership gained momentum in the second set, earning their fifth title together 7-6(2), 6-2.

In the women’s tournament De Groot became a winner twice over. After defeating Germany’s world No.4 Sabine Ellerbrock 6-1, 6-2 in the women’s singles final, she joined forces with British player Lucy Shuker to win the doubles title following a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Ellerbrock and Dutchwoman Marjolein Buis.

USA’s world No.1 David Wagner took the quad singles title, while Brazil’s Ymanitu Silva and South Africa’s Lucas Sithole won the quad doubles.
