The memorandum will last until the end of 2016 and will include the publication of results collected from the Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Games.

The IPC has extended its current memorandum of understanding with the Clinical Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Group (CSEMRG) to additionally develop injury and illness research studies in Paralympic sport.

CSEMRG, based at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa, helps the IPC protect an athlete’s health as set forth in the medical code. Now, they will also help capture reliable and representative information on all athlete injuries and illness during the London 2012 Paralympic Games and in future IPC summer and winter major events.

The aims of the present study are to record newly acquired illnesses and sports injuries incurred in competitions or training beginning with the London Games and extending forward in the format of a longitudinal study. The injury surveillance system used in previous Games will be modified by CSEMRG into an electronic version to improve acceptance and compliance of the survey.

The memorandum will last until the end of 2016 and will include the publication of results collected from the Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Games.
