Iran’s Zahra Nemati made her first Archery World Cup event one to remember, as the London 2012 Paralympic champion set a new world record of 657 in the para-archery recurve open category on Wednesday (6 May) in Shanghai, China.

Nehmati, who also won gold at last year’s Asian Para Games, was the 12th seed among the field of 109 recurve women.

“I was just very strong (on Wednesday),” Nemati said. “Self-confidence is probably my strongest asset as an archer. But I just came to Shanghai for a good experience, really.”

Nemati finished joint-ninth, as she was eliminated in the fourth round by world champion Maja Jager.
