IWAS appoints new Sport Science and Medical Officer

The International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Executive Board has appointed Dr Johnson Nino-Soto as IWAS Sport Science and Medial Officer.

A Colombian doctor, Nino-Soto has trained in Sports Medicine and Human Performance, associate research of Universidad Javeriana (COL), University of Quebec (CAN) and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA, US).

He has been involved with the Paralympic Movement since 1999 as a part of the group who made the Colombian's Veteran's Army League. He later became the Chair of the Colombian Paralympic Committee Medical Commission 2004-2010. He also joined the International Cycling Union (UCI) as a classifier in 2007 and has been a member of the IWAS TUE Committee since 2008 and TUE Chair since 2010.

The successful posting was confirmed by IWAS President Mr Paul DePace on the 6 March when he offered his sincere gratitude to Dr Nino-Soto for accepting such an important function within IWAS.

Dr Nino-Soto has been appointed in the position from 1 March 2015 until 28 February 2019.

He replaces Dr Oriol Martinez who had successfully filled the role of IWAS Sport Science and Medical Officer from 1997 until 2013.
