Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games gold medallist Christoph Kunz, and European champions Marcel Hug and Manuela Schaer have been nominated for the Swiss para-athlete of the year 2014 award.

The winner will be selected by the Swiss sports media and announced on 14 December during a live TV show.

After a highly successful 2013 winning five world titles, Swiss “silver bullet” Marcel Hug confirmed his position as one of the world’s best wheelchair racers by claiming three gold medals and a silver at the 2014 IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea, Great Britain.

Christoph Kunz repeated his success of the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games by winning another Paralympic gold at Sochi 2014. The 32-year-old sit-skier topped the podium in his favourite discipline, the giant slalom. It was Switzerland’s only medal in Sochi.

Four starts and four gold medals meant a perfect European Championships for wheelchair racer Manuela Schaer.

Also on 14 December, other sport awards will be given in five more categories: best male, best female, best team, best coach and best newcomer.
