The Spanish national team for the 2015 IPC Para-Snowboard World Championships was named on Wednesday (18 February), at an event where organisers also outlined their aspirations for the competition which runs from 23-28 February.

At a press conference in Barcelona, the President of Grup FGC, Enric Tico, said that the partnership approach between themselves, IPC Alpine Skiing and Para-snowboard and the Spanish Paralympic Committee would ensure the successful delivery of the competition.

It is the third time in recent years that a major international competition will be held in La Molina, following the 2011 FIS Snowboard World Championships and the 2013 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships.

Athletes will begin arriving in the resort on Friday (20 January), with the Opening Ceremony taking place on 23 February.

May Peus, President of the Royal Spanish Winter Sports Federation (RFEDI), highlighted the support received from the FGC Group and especially of La Molina, with the Catalan Federation d'Esports Hivern (FCEH).

The Spanish team for La Molina 2015 will consist of Astrid Fina, Urko Egea and Aitor Puertas, who will be accompanied by their coach, Albert Mallol.

All three riders competed at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, where Fina captured a sixth place in the women’s race alongside Egea and Puertas in 17th and 30th place respectively in the men’s.

Both snowboard-cross and banked slalom will be contested on the Alabaus piste, with competition starting on Tuesday (24 February) with cross and banked slalom on Saturday (28 February).

All competitions will be streamed live at LaMolina2015.com.
