Officials improve knowledge for PyeongChang 2018

IPC Alpine Skiing and Snowboard has completed its latest round of training for National Technical Officials (NTOs) in South Korea as part of the build-up to the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

The five-day course between 6-10 January at the Youngpyong Alpine Centre was the second time that NTOs who will be officiating at competitions during the next Paralympic Winter Games received expert advice and education.

Overall 240 alpine skiing and 40 snowboard NTOs took part in the training sessions ahead of the IPC Snowboard Asia Cup and IPC Alpine Skiing Asia Cup due to take place at Youngpyong between 6-10 March.

Markus Walser, Chairperson of IPC Alpine Skiing and Snowboard’s Sport Technical Committee, said: “IPC Alpine Skiing and Snowboard is encouraged by the completion of the initial training.

“It gives participants the ability to work at para-alpine and para-snowboard events for the next two seasons in order to gain valuable experience prior to PyeongChang 2018.”

Brad Serwa, the IPC Alpine Skiing Technical Delegate for PyeongChang 2018, conducted the on-hill portion of the sessions. Technical and on-hill training in snowboard was carried out by Martijn Oostdijk, IPC Snowboard Race Director assisted by Walser.
