Paralympic Winter Sport Featured at International Medicine Congress

From 13 to 17 February 2008, the 10th International Congress on Winter Sport Medicine took place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.

Under the scientific direction of Prof. Dr. med. Imhoff, Prof. Dr. med. Bühren, Dr. med. Hörterer and Prof. Dr. Med. Halle, different subjects in the field of Winter Sport Medicine were covered such as „Injuries and Prophylaxis of Injuries in Winter Sport”, “Sport as Therapy in Cardiology” and many more.

International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Medical and Scientific Director Dr. Peter van de Vliet attended the congress on behalf of the IPC and held two presentations, covering an Sport Injury Survey in Paralympic Winter Sport and the topic of Classification in Paralympic Winter Sport.

In addition to the presentations, a panel discussion with Dr. van de Vliet and Karl Lotz, a Paralympic Alpine skier, was held. Main topic of this discussion was the relation between Paralympic athletes and Winter Sport Medicine.
