“We were not in it at the start, but we got going later and gave them a game.”
Iran continued to dominate the men’s sitting volleyball competition with an easy victory against Brazil on Monday (3 September).
They secured a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-17) victory over the South American’s in their Pool B encounter at ExCeL.
They have won gold at five of the previous six Paralympic Games - and they are yet to drop a set in this tournament.
Brazillian coach Gilberto Lourenco was pleased with his team’s performance in the latter stages of the match, despite the result.
"We worked hard but we faced problems,” he said. “Iran are very good.”
“We were not in it at the start, but we got going later and gave them a game.”
Bosnia and Herzegovina made light work of beating Rwanda, 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-8) in a match that lasted just under an hour.
Bosnia started well and dropped just seven points in a one-sided opening set, with Rwanda making regular errors.
The Rwandans improved in the second set, but their No.2-ranked opponents gave little away.
The final set was another straightforward one for Bosnia, who had too much power and blocking prowess for Rwanda.
Germany’s men also won 3-0 on Monday (3 September) against home-nation, Great Britain.
They won 25-19, 25-16, 25-14 in the Pool A match, to continue their unbeaten run in the London Games.
Alexander Schiffler and Heiko Wiesenthal both had impressive performances to ensure the German victory.
In the women’s competition, there was convincing wins for China, the USA and Ukraine.
Defending champions China have looked unstoppable and their fine form suggests that a consecutive gold medal is a realistic target.
In the first set against Slovenia, they established a lead and hung on to it throughout the match – winning 25-12, 25-15, 25-16.
Slovenia, who have lost all three of their pool matches, will battle it out in the classifications on Tuesday (4 September).
USA beat Brazil 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-19) in both teams' final women's sitting volleyball Pool B match
Also in the women’s competition, Ukraine beat Japan, 3-0 (25-20, 25-9, 25-16).
