From 27-28 February, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) conducted a site inspection visit to the city of Tel Aviv, Israel, from which a bid application for the 2009 IPC Wheelchair Dance Sport European Championships was received.
IPC Wheelchair Dance Sport Technical Committee Chair Person, Mrs. Grethe Andersen and IPC Wheelchair Dance Sport Manager Athena Charitaki went to Israel to meet with members from the local bid authority and discuss the bid documents, as well as give constructive feedback, answer questions and talk about the next steps which need to be taken to successfully host the European Championships.
“The site inspection visit gave the IPC a good idea about what the capital of Israel is planning to do for the European Championships,” Ms. Charitaki said. “The local bid authority was thorough in offering their proposal for the big event.”
During the two days of meetings, Mrs. Andersen and Ms. Charitaki also visited the proposed competition venue, the Basketball Hall, Shefaim, Raanana in Tel Aviv, and the proposed accommodation sites. The organizer of the event would be the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Israel.
The proposed dates for the 2009 IPC Wheelchair Dance Sport European Championships is 15-19 October. Competitions will include the Combi Standard classes 1 and 2, Combi Latin classes 1 and 2, Duo Standard classes 1 and 2 and Duo Latin classes 1 and 2.
