“We want to ensure that snowboarders can compete on high quality courses and on the best snow in the world, especially as para-snowboard cross will make its Winter Games debut at Sochi 2014 from 7 March."

IPC Alpine Skiing, the governing body of para-snowboard, has confirmed that two competitions due to take place in Maribor, Slovenia, have been cancelled because of a lack of snowfall.

The World and Europa Cups, scheduled for 3-5 February and 6 February respectively, were called off and riders will now head from the IPCAS Snowboard World Cup in Big White, Canada, this weekend (25-26 January), directly to the World Cup finals in La Molina, Spain from 10-12 February.

Dimitrije Lazarovski, IPC Snow Sport Senior Manager explained the reasons for the decision:

“We want to ensure that snowboarders can compete on high quality courses and on the best snow in the world, especially as para-snowboard cross will make its Winter Games debut at Sochi 2014 from 7 March.

“We do not take decisions like this lightly but, working closely with the local organisers, we felt it was the right thing to do.”

The next IPCAS Snowboard World Cup is due to start on Saturday at Big White, Canada, with two days of competitions, before the World Cup finals in La Molina on 10-12 February.
