The Swedish team preparing for next month’s IBSA World Games in Turkey is holding a training camp this week for its athletes.
Sweden is sending a large squad to Turkey with athletes set to compete in Athletics, Goalball, Judo and Swimming.
For some the 10 day long competition in Turkey will be an opportunity to compete in a major multi-sport event, whilst for others it will be a chance to reach qualification targets for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
After finishing sixth at last year’s World Championships, Jorgen Lindahl, coach of Sweden’s Goalball is confident his side can reach the last four and qualify for London.
“You have to get to the semi-finals to qualify for London,” said Lindahl. “I belive we have a great chance to do so as our form is getting better and the team is currently in peak condition.”
Another person looking to qualify in Turkey for next year’s Paralympic Games is Per Jonsson who, despite jumping 6.77m to take bronze earlier this year at the International Paralympic Committee Athletics World Championships, has yet to reach the minimum distance for London athletes.
The World IBSA Games take place in Antalya, Turkey from 1-10 April 2011.
