Swiss team named for Swansea 2014

Schaer, who won one gold and three silver medals last year, will start as favourite in all her T54 events in the absence of the USA’s Tatyana McFadden.

The Swiss team has been named for the 2014 IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea, Great Britain, (18-23 August) and it includes world champion wheelchair racers Marcel Hug and Manuela Schaer.

Hug, a winner of five world titles at last year’s IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France, will line-up in all T54 wheelchair races from 400m through to the 5,000m, where is likely to meet his great rival David Weir of Great Britain. Meanwhile Schaer, who won one gold and three silver medals last year, will start as favourite in all her T54 events in the absence of the USA’s Tatyana McFadden.

Nine athletes make the team and are:

Beat Boesch - 100m and 400m T52

Philip Handler - 100m and 200m T13

Alexandra Helbling - 100m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m T54

Marcel Hug – 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m and 5,000m T54

Patricia Keller - 400m, 800m, 1,500m and 5,000m T54

Tobias Lötscher – 1,500m and 5,000m T54

Bojan Mitic – 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m T34

Manuela Schaer – 400m, 800m, 1,500m and 5,000m T54

Patrick Stoll – Javelin F44
