Switzerland’s Horner leads in World Para-Archery Championships13.07.2011
The World Archery Para Championships 2011 got underway yesterday (12 July) in the Hunting Residence of Stupinigi, Turin, Italy with compound open qualification rounds.
As well as new world champions being crowned, the event which will go on until 17 July, will also allocate a total of 140 quota places for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Just behind him in second place with 1,369 points was Atlanta 1996 Paralympic Games gold medallist Lee Ouk Soo of Korea. In third place was Great Britain’s Beijing gold medallist John Stephen Stubbs with 1,365 points.
In the team event Korea, USA and Czech Republic led the ranking with more than 4,000 points each.
In the Compound Open Women’s event, Great Britain’s reigning European and world champion, Danielle Brown (1,386 points), led the way ahead of European medallist Zandra Reppe of Sweden in second place (1,375 points).
In the team event, thanks to the high performances of their athletes, Russia (4,047 points) took the lead, with Great Britain (3,975 points) second and China (3,968 points) in third place.
For the first time in the World Archery Para Championship, there is also a Mixed Team Compound Open event. Fifteen teams, composed of the best male and female archers of each country, will shoot for the victory. Topping the competition were Danielle Brown/ John Stephen Stubbs with 2,751 points, followed by the Swedish duo of Robert Larsson/ Zandra Reppe with 2,716 points. Russia’s Stepanida Artakhinova/ Alexey Scherbakov were third with 2699 points.
