US hold sledge hockey camp, announce national Champs

The US national ice sledge hockey team will begin its training on Thursday (8 October) at the Extreme Ice Centre in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The full 2015-16 roster will also be joined by the national development team for the duration of the camp.

Goaltender Steve Cash is back for his 11th season with Team USA. He backstopped the US to gold medals at the 2010 and 2014 Paralympic Winter Games as well as the 2009, 2012, and 2015 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships.

In defence, Team USA welcomes back Josh Pauls, who earned the directorate award as Best Defenceman of the 2015 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championship, in addition to Tyler Carron, Billy Hanning and two-time Paralympic gold medalist Nikko Landeros.

Ten forwards return from the 2014-15 US National Sledge Hockey Team, including the trio of Declan Farmer, Kevin McKee and Brody Roybal that accounted for 53 points in 13 games last season. They are joined by Chris Douglas, Luke McDermott, Josh Misiewicz, Dan McCoy, two-time Paralympic gold medalist Adam Page, Paul Schaus, and Josh Sweeney.

The newcomers to the 2015-16 roster are goaltender Bo Reichenbach and defenceman Rico Roman. Reichenbach, a first time member of the team, spent the past two seasons (2013-15) with the US National Developmental Sled Hockey Team.

Both the national and development teams will conduct practices on Thursday and Friday (9 October). Additionally, the two teams will face off Friday at 3 pm. ET and again Saturday (10 October) at 9.30 am ET. All practices and games are open to the public.

Also on Saturday, both teams are scheduled to visit the Charlotte International Speedway and take in the 2015 Bank of America 500 race. Part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the 500-mile race will include racer, Joey Logano, whose foundation, the Joey Logano Foundation, presented the US National Sledge Hockey Team with a USD 10,000 donation in March.

USA Hockey also announced the host sites for the 2017 Toyota-USA Hockey National Championships, with the ice sledge hockey event set for 6-19 April in San Jose, California, hosted by Sharks Ice.
