US Paralympic Cycling Team Announced for London
25.06.2012
U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, has announced athlete nominations for the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Cycling Team that will compete in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Three U.S. military veterans have been named to the team.
The nominated athletes include seven women and six men representing 11 sport classes. There are seven U.S. Paralympians on the roster and four current world champions. This will be the sixth Paralympic Games for Allison Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and the third for Muffy Davis (Salt Lake City, Utah). Three U.S. military veterans have been named to the team including Steve Peace, Navy; Oz Sanchez, Marine Corps; and Jen Schuble, Army.
The team was selected based on results from the time trial held yesterday at the U.S. Paralympic Road Cycling National Championships in Augusta, as well as February’s 2012 UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships held in Los Angeles and last September’s 2011 Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.
At the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, the U.S. won 14 medals in cycling; five gold, five silver and four bronze.
