Wollmert was nominated for the fair play award by Sir Philip Craven, President of the International Paralympic Committee.

The International Fair Play Committee (CIFP) honoured German table tennis player and Paralympic champion Jochen Wollmert’s behaviour during the London 2012 Paralympic Games with the Baron de Coubertin Fair Play Award, the most prestigious award for fair play in sport worldwide.

On the way to winning his third Paralympic gold medal, Wollmert gave back a disputed point to his opponents in the semi-final and the final. After winning the final against home favourite Will Bailey, he went over to comfort his defeated opponent as he slumped to the floor in tears.

Wollmert was nominated for the fair play award by Sir Philip Craven, President of the International Paralympic Committee. The nomination was supported by the vice president of the CIFP, Norbert Müller.

According to Müller, the award will be given to Wollmert in September in Paris, during the 50th anniversary of the CIFP.
