Sport for Development refers to investment and intervention activities, which use sport as an instrument to achieve development goals in education, health, economics, civic affairs and conflict resolution for example. Sport for Development is based on the principles of equality, peace and inclusion with an emphasis on increasing access to resources and improving the standard of living in developing nations.

The IPC will participate in Sport for Development interventions as an effective and appropriate engagement strategy for NPCs from less developed countries. It is recognized that, in some countries, sport for development projects may provide the most effective strategy for growing participation in and raising awareness of the Paralympic Movement. Through these projects the IPC will work alongside NPCs from developing nations with the vision of future partnering around organizational development.
