Zhang Haidong of China already has two Paralympic gold medals in his collection, the first from the Atlanta 1996 Paralympic Games in the 67.50kg class and from Sydney in 2000 in the 75kg class. Both of these lifts earned him a world record. In 2003, in the 82.50kg category, he achieved a lift of 247.50kg which is three-times his own bodyweight! One of his greatest sporting achievements was at the 1998 World Championships in Dubai, where Zhang won the men´s 75kg class and beat his own world record by l0 kilograms. Zhang began training at the age of 18 and to this day still undertakes a strenuous daily training program.
