Qaher Hazrat (22 years old) is one of two Afghani athletes who will be attending the ATHENS 2004 Paralympic Games. Despite the challenges faced in this conflict ridden country, Hazrat has emerged as one of the countries top speed cyclists - in both disabled and able-bodied competition.
Hazrat completed his studies and now works for the Afghan Amputee Bicyclists for Rehabilitation and Recreation (AABRAR) who also sponsor his athletic activities. He works for the Disabled Cycle Messenger Service and as the oldest of eight children is able to support his entire family.
After losing both of his legs below the knee in a landmine accident at age 14, Hazrat began competing only a year later. He will be competing at the ATHENS 2004 Paralympic Games in cycling although he enjoys many other sports and aims to bring home Afghanistan´s first Paralympic medal.
