John began his international Boccia career at the European Championships in 1997 in Vitoria, Spain. Since then, Cronin has been a regular medal winner at major Championships. At the 1998 World Championships in New York he achieved a bronze medal, at the 1999 World Cup in Argentina he added a BC3 Silver Medal and BC3 Pair Silver Medal with partner Margaret Grant and a further BC3 Bronze Medal and BC3 Pair Bronze Medal with partner Joanne Dowling at the 2002 World Championships. The highlight of his medal haul is the gold medal Cronin and his partner won in the BC3 pair’s competition at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games. This year, Cronin will be the defending pair’s champion along side his new partner, Gerard O’Grady and is looking to improve on his 4th place in the individual competition. In Cronin’s thoughts: “Athens is going to be tough. It’s important to stay focused and to be vigilant with the training programme.  I’m gearing up for intense competition with International friends, but deadly rivals. I’m looking forward again to representing Ireland but also to enjoying the event.”
