Ukraine Becomes Football 7-a-Side Champion in Europe

The Ukraine beat Russia 5:2 to take the overall title at the Cerebral Palsy International Sport and Recreation Association (CP-ISRA) Football 7-a-Side European Championships. The Championships were held from 20 to 29 July in Dublin, Ireland, and involved teams from eight countries (England/Wales, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Russia, Scotland, Spain and Ukraine). The Netherlands took third place after they defeated host country Ireland 2:1.

As the top ranked team from this competition, the Ukraine has now qualified for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games subject to placing in the top ten at the 2007 CP-ISRA Football 7-a-Side World Championships. Another regional competition will be held for the Asia-Oceania region from 25 November to 1 December at the FESPIC Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A total of eight teams will qualify to compete in Beijing in 2008.
