History

Curling is more than 500 years old and its true origin is hidden in the mist of time. However, in Scotland the game evolved during the centuries and this is also where the mother club of Curling, the Royal Caledonian Curling Club was formed in 1838. Able-bodied curling gained full medal status at the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games. Wheelchair Curling will have its debut at the Torino 2006 Paralympic Winter Games. The first edition of the World Championships were held in Switzerland from 21 to 26 January 2002, with the triumph of the host team followed by Canada and Scotland.
