Cambodia's NPC on the Rise

An open letter on the occasion of the IPC Headquarters Opening

".... Cambodia is honoured to have become a member nation and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship

as an active members of the IPC. We still face an uphill battle in achieving recognition and an understanding of the importance of disabled sporting activities within Cambodia.

Any assistance that delegates can provide for our program would be humbly accepted and gratefully appreciated. I wish to take this opportunity to convey thanks to the many nations, organisations and individuals who have assisted in the development of the Cambodian Paralympic Program to date and acknowledge that this assistance has created major opportunities for athletes with a disability in Cambodia as witnessed by our recent success of three silver and two bronze medals at the 1999 FESPIC Games.

I stress that Cambodia is determined for the first time in the history of the Paralympics to field a national team at the Sydney 2000 Paralympics. We will be there."

Yi Veasna, Secretary General, National Paralympic
Committee of Cambodia(NPCC)
