The World Basketball Championship was held in Warsaw, Poland, in June. 150 athletes from Belgium, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic and Russia participated. Seven days later the INAS-FID athletes packed their bags again in order to attend the World Cycling Championship in León, Spain. A month after that, they travelled to Harnosand, Sweden, to participate in the European 11-a side Championship, and again in Spain, 500 athletes took part in the World Athletics Championship for Persons with an Intellectual Disability in Seville in September.
Worl Basketball Championchips

Since the beginning this championship was not an ordinary one. After the World Basketball Championship held in Brazil, in which Spain and Poland were classified for the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, there were two vacancies left to be covered in this European Championship. In the end, Spain beat Portugal, who thanks to achieving the second place reached its target: Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games. Poland was 3d and Greece was 4th , also assuring its attendance in Sydney.

Cycling Championchips in Spain

The Spanish town of Leon hosted the first edition of the INAS-FID World Cycling Championship from June 14 to 19. This Championship gathered almost 100 cyclist from Spain, Portugal and France. It was contended throughout diverse Leonese regions, La Cepeda, Maragateria, EI Bierzo, Montaiia Leonesa and the capital of León. The Spaniard Javier Etxebarria became World Charnpion in Individual TimeTrial Short Distance, Middle and Short Distance Track. In the Team Time Trial, the Portuguese team , ANDDEM, won the gold. Again, another Portuguese, Paulo, won the forth stage and became World Champion in Individual Time-Trial Long Distance.
