CP-ISRA Is Moving Forward - 2000 and Beyond

The CP-ISRA's Annual Meeting in Ottawa, Canada in September 1999 reconfirmed the intention of the Federation to move forward. A new Executive Committee, set in place just one year ago, is committed to three clear objectives as they move the international federation into the new millennium.

A significant feature of the CP-ISRA mandate is the work on three main fronts:

  • The need for improved communication for all its members. A new publicity campaign has begun with fresh approaches and publications. Into this arena, is the new and updated
    CP-ISRA website (http://www.cpisra.org/).
  • A second area of concern and necessary work is in the recruitment of interested and willing volunteers to assist in the work of the sports of the federation. There is an urgent need for sports technicians across all CP-ISRA sports for potential classifiers and also for general workers to assist in the administration.
  • A third defined work is in the sports development of the federation. There are so many requests that come into CP-ISRA from a variety of national organizations and clubs. The volume exceeds the possible output by far. There are just not enough workers to do the work. It is for this reason that CP-ISRA is mounting a campaign for more helpers to assist in the CP-ISRA work. The motto is: "There is an opportunity for all" and CP-ISRA is pledged to assist all those who wish to participate in sports to fulfill the dream.

Capitation Tax Increased Due to Inflation

The IPC Executive Committee agreed on an increase of the capitation tax from USD 30 to USD 36, which is due to inflation only. For World Championships, the repartition of the capitation tax was changed, too. Equal parts are now given to the IPC, the relevant sports section and the development fund, which includes the IOSDs. Sports are also eligible to apply for funding for specific development projects.

The capitation tax is a fee levied at World and Regional Championships and Games for every competing athlete and team officials.

New Eligibility Criteria for Solidarity

In order to give financial support and to provide equal opportunities for athletes with a disability throughout the world, the eligibility criteria to receive funding were changed as follows:

  • If a National Paralympic Committee is eligible for funding, a delegation of two or more athletes is allowed to include one coach maximum.
  • If only one person receives funding, this person has to be an athlete.
