Wanted: Your Best Photos
from the Paralympic Games
Photographers, don't tuck away your best shots when the immediate excitement of the
Sydney Paralympic Games is over in October 2000. Submit them for the IPC's first Photo
Contest, which is open to all and which will be held over three months following the
Sydney Paralympics till January 2001.
A detailed announcement will be sent to all Games-accredited photographers and will be
available on the IPC website in November 2000. Photographic prints (color or
black-and-white) submitted should be original works taken at the Paralympic Games Sydney
2000. The subject matter is flexible and may range from sports events, training sessions,
ceremonies and official functions, to sports venues and equipment.
A jury, which includes members from the world of photography and from the IPC Executive
Committee and constituencies, will judge and select the winning entries. Ten prizes will
be awarded in all. The winners will be announced next year in Bonn, Germany, the home of
the IPC Headquarters.
If you would like to receive the announcement and other updates on the Photo Contest,
please contact the IPC Headquarters (E-mail: berlinda.nadarajan@paralympic.org). |
Open Letter:
Realizing Dreams and Goals
If Atlanta 1996 was an important part of the dreams of intellectually disabled
athletes, being the first time they ever participated at the Paralympic Games, gathering
together in one single competition with physically disabled, cerebral palsy and visually
impaired athletes, Sydney 2000 means a no less important achievement. On this occasion,
besides participating in the athletics and swimming events, athletes with intellectual
disabilities will, for the first time, participate in basketball, equestrian and table
tennis.
The city of Sydney will be devoted to the Paralympics for one month, when thousands of
athletes from all corners of the earth will travel to Australia full of hopes, hopes that
I want to imbue to all athletes with disabilities, as a tribute to their effort and
devotion, and especially to intellectually disabled athletes, for their tenacity and
endeavor to improve. I would like to wish all athletes and those who will be representing
the big family of INAS-FID all the best for the XI Paralympic Games and to remind them
that success is achieved by making of every step a goal and of every goal a step.
Fernando Martín Vicente
