| Four IPC Commissions Established
The IPC Management Committee approved the creation of four IPC Commissions to look into
priority issues in Paralympic sport and the Paralympic Movement, at its meeting in January
2001.
The four Commissions are: Women in Sport, Sport for Athletes with Severe Disabilities,
Ethics and Sport, and Development in Sport. Each Commission comprises four to six members,
including experienced individuals from outside the Paralympic Movement, who each have
expertise in the specific area. There will also be one member on each Commission from the
International Olympic Committee (IOC). Potential candidates have already been proposed by
the IOC and will soon be confirmed.
All NPCs, Sports and IOSDs were given the opportunity to nominate candidates for the
Commissions last year. The nominations received were then reviewed by the IPC President
and Vice-President for Policy, Planning and Development, before they were eventually
approved by the Management Committee.
The IPC thanks all who have contributed to this process, and warmly welcomes the
members who have agreed to initially serve on these Commissions. Each Commission will hold
its first meeting in May/June 2001 to begin preparing proposals and strategic initiatives
for their respective area.
