Paralympic Games/Salt Lake City

Paralympic Solidarity

National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) widely practicing a Paralympic Winter Sport and which meet the Paralympic Solidarity eligibility criteria will qualify to receive funds to enable their participation in the Salt Lake City 2002 Paralympic Winter Games.

Eligibility criteria

NPCs applying for Paralympic Solidarity 2002
funds must meet the following criteria:

  1. The NPC must be considered widely-practicing a Paralympic Winter Sport, as defined in the IPC Handbook, Section III, Chapter 4.
  2. The NPC must have a Gross National Product (GNP) below US$3,000 according to the World Bank Atlas 2001.
  3. The NPC must have at least one athlete who has qualified for the Salt Lake City 2002 Paralympic Winter Games.
  4. The NPC must be a member in good standing with the IPC, i.e. the NPC is a paid and registered member for 2001 with no current sanctions.

Funding categories

NPCs meeting the eligibility criteria may receive
funds in one of the following categories:

  1. NPCs with a GNP below US$1,000 will receive a maximum support level for up to three (3) athletes, one (1) of which must be a woman, at a rate of US$1,500 per athlete.
  2. NPCs with a GNP between US$1,001 and US$2,000 will receive a maximum support level for up to two (2) athletes, one of which must be a woman, at a rate of US$1,500 per athlete.
  3. NPCs with a GNP between US$2,001 and US$3,000 will receive a maximum support level for one (1) athlete at a rate of US$1,500.

Funding priorities

NPCs eligible to receive funds shall have
those funds used in the following sequence:

  1. IPC membership fees
If an NPC has not paid its 2001 IPC annual membership fee, its Solidarity allocation will first be used to pay the membership fee, before being used for entry fees and athlete travel. If an NPC has paid its 2001 IPC annual membership fee, its Solidarity allocation may be used for entry fees and athlete travel.
  2. Salt Lake City 2002 entry fees
NPCs eligible to receive funds shall have their entry fees partially or fully covered, depending on their funding category and number of participating athletes. The balance remaining may then be used for athlete travel.
  3. Athlete travel
NPCs with remaining funds after deductions for membership fees and entry fees shall have the balance transferred to their respective bank account to assist in covering travel expenses for eligible athletes.

Finance Department at the IPC Headquarters.
