Athletes’ Committee Elects Chairperson

In July, the nine member IPC Athletes’ Committee had its first meeting of the year in Paris, France. It welcomed three new winter delegates elected at the Salt Lake Games: Carme Garcia Rigau (Spain, Alpine Skiing), Tanja Kari (Finland, Cross-Country Skiing) and Michael Milton (Australia,Alpine Skiing). The first-time members learned a great deal about the roles and activities of the Athletes’ Committee.

A number of initiatives were discussed during the meeting, including the development of stronger links with the IOC Athletes’ Commission and effective cross-representation.Three separate working groups were formed to address various aspects of the committee’s activities: the IPC/IOC agreement in place from 2008 onwards, the Committee’s terms of reference and future budgeting requirements.
