Seven Years to Go to London 2012 Paralympic Games
Exactly seven years from today, the London 2012 Paralympic Games will start in the capital city of Great Britain.
Sebastian Coe, Chairperson
of the London 2012 Organizing Committee said: “29 August 2012 will be a great
day in the history of sport for people with a disability in the UK. We won our
bid as one bid for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Paralympic Games
and the Paralympic Movement have a special place in the history and development
of sport in the UK. Our vision for the London 2012 Paralympic Games is to set
new standards for services, facilities and opportunities for people with a
disability.”
Preparations for the Games,
which will be held from 29 August to 9 September 2012, are already underway.
Next week, Xavier Gonzalez, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International
Paralympic Committee (IPC) will visit London and meet representatives and
officials from the British Paralympic Association (BPA) and the Organizing
Committee for discussions about London’s plans.
London
2012 will create a Paralympic Games division that will integrate and co-ordinate
the planning for both Games. The London 2012 Paralympic Games aim to be an
athlete-centred event with convenient venues. Accessibility will be the most
